Dire is the second book in the Reaper's Redemption series and I must say that I was riveted from start to finish.
Ayla is the complete opposite of what you would expect a typical heroine to be. She is truly unprepared for everything that comes her way but somehow always manages to muddle her way through.
Surreal dreams, canopic jars and multiple references to Birkenstocks, this book will make you laugh, ponder where everything is headed and seriously want to beat Azrael to a pulp (maybe that last bit is just me)..... I think if you like the Urban Fantasy genre, you will love this new take on the grim reaper.
I received this as an ARC which I voluntarily read in exchange for an honest review.
This series is getting good. The author knows how to make you feel you are right there with the characters. A reaper with a conscious, a druid, a necromancer and an angel can work together to quell the forces of evil. I cannot wait for the next book.

Will Ayla ever learn? The story continues to evolve and she seems to be figuring out things that will help her, but has she just made the choice that will end her existence? Just when I think she and Azrael are destined to be together, the bottom drops out! And Sarah's family - who will win? This just gets better and better - Can't wait for the next book! (Really need to read them in order!)
Dire, Thea Atkinson's second installment of the Reaper's Redemption series, picks up right where Grim left off. In Dire, we learn more about Ayla. She's struggling to figure out how to protect Gramps, Sarah and Callum. On top of that, she's struggling to figure out her feelings for Callum. Azrael is there too, providing cryptic advice and confusing emotions.
So what does an incubus have to do with canopic jars buried in Gramps' backyard? That's the million dollar question. We follow Ayla as she attempts to navigate that murky and confusing time between the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood. When grownup desires start surfacing, but no experience on how to deal with it. Ayla is desperate to be feel worthy of love, but at the same time is sure she's sure she doesn't deserve it.
While Atkinson has created an interesting world, and keeps the action moving, its really Ayla's journey that keeps you engaged. She's trying to put the pieces together for a puzzle she doesn't really understand. At the same time, she's desperate to keep those she loves safe. I can't wait to see what Atkinson has up her sleeve next.
Good story. I like the world Ms Atkinson has built. There were a few typos and misspellings, but overall a good book.
